How To Build Shaker Furniture
Thos Moser

This book is
written, not for the critic, not for the idle appreciator, but rather,
the builder, the maker. It offers a short course on tools and woodworking
methods while the designs contained in the book descend from Shaker
tradition, which flourished a long time ago, yet has a direct relevance
to us. These designs are not copies of antiques, They are not slavish
redundancies. They are, rather, an attempt at perpetuating one small
aspect of a vision, which fell prey to economic and stylistic pressures
125 years ago. Throughout, attention is given to producing a wide
range of furniture using the same building methods used by early
shakers and by cabinetmakers of earlier times.
