For
more than 75 years, students have traveled to the foothills of North
Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains to study at Penland School of Crafts,
a world-renowned education center with courses in a variety of media.
This remarkable volume showcases ten of the talented furniture makers
who have taught at the school and are considered leaders in their
field.
These
fine craftsmen are photographed demonstrating the structural and decorative
techniques for which they are known. There are also personal essays
that describe each artist's history, inspirations, influences, and
photographs of their work. Some of the pieces blur the distinction
between furniture and sculpture, and many of the skills presented
here are applicable to both areas.
